Congratulations Melissa Barron, this week's Senior Spotlight!

"Melissa volunteers at Craycroft Elementary, tutoring students in math and supporting Spanish speaking families. She coaches younger softball players in catching and outfield skills, offering mentorship that builds confidence and competence. She volunteers at community animal care events, supports work at the PCC vet center, and dog sits for families, small acts of care that reflect her long term goal of pursuing veterinary medicine and owning her own veterinary clinic. She also showed a ton of perseverance by staying committed to her team and community while rehabilitating a shoulder injury to her throwing arm. A quality that takes some people many more years to learn. Melissa Barron is a rare student, advanced in intellect, generous in spirit, and grounded in service. She brings quiet strength to every endeavor and uplifts those around her with grace and purpose."

Across our community, families struggle to afford the diapers and wipes they need. Part of our CAT Statement is caring about others, and that means caring about and giving back to our community. This is why we are so proud to be participating in the 10th Annual Vail Diaper Drive! All donations stay in Pima County, and a portion returns directly to the Vail Food Bank to be given to our local families.

Between now and September 18th, we are collecting diapers and wipes for the Arizona Diaper Bank. Donations can be dropped off in Conference Room 137 in our front office. We want to reward students who donate to the drive, so please include the student's name, class, and teacher with donations. Our focus is on diapers (sizes 4, 5, and 6) and adult pull-ups (sizes Medium, Large, XL, and XXL). There is also an option for monetary donations directly to the diaper bank; every dollar donated equals 6 ⅔ diapers for a family in need! Go to https://givebutter.com/vaildrive2026 to make a donation.

We will also be offering admission to several Cienega athletics events during the drive with a donation of diapers or a donation to the Arizona Diaper Bank. Please note, these donations will not count towards student and donation class totals.

This year, our Bobcat Goal for the diaper drive is 75,000 diapers or $10,000 donated. In order to meet this goal, we are offering prizes and incentives for students and classes that participate! Every student that makes a donation will receive a Diaper Drive T-shirt. Additionally, the top 4 student donors will receive a Homecoming Dance VIP Package, which includes one free ticket to the Homecoming Dance, a jump to the front of the line pass for all 3 school dances, and a VIP parking pass for all 3 school dances. If a single class (example: Ms. Smith’s 3rd Period class) brings in 1000 diapers, the whole class will receive free Homecoming Dance tickets.

Thank you for partnering with us, let's work together to make a huge impact in our local community!

Congratulations Allison Bolle, this week's Senior Spotlight!

"I am nominating this student because they are truly one of those students who makes a lasting impact wherever they go. As Student Body President, they have become someone I can always count on. They have assisted with countless assemblies, dances, spirit weeks, and other school activities—often working behind the scenes to make sure everything comes together. They genuinely care about our school and work hard to create experiences that help other students feel included, connected, and proud to be part of our community. Their commitment to others also extends beyond our campus through their work with community programs at Esmond Station. Even while balancing academics, Student Council, community involvement, and many other responsibilities, they continue to show up for others and give their best. They set high expectations for themselves and are willing to put in the time and effort necessary to reach their goals."

Congratulations Adrien Mortensen, this week's Senior Spotlight!

"Adrien has completely transformed the culture within the marching band by demonstrating exceptional student leadership. His work with the other student leaders in the program and even the youngest students is something I am in awe of. He sets a high standard for the entire band through demonstrating what it means to work hard and to work consistently towards a goal. He is kind to other individuals and always seeks to resolve conflict by understanding others' feelings and thoughts. Adrien routinely achieves high ratings at competitions and auditions because of the hard work and high standard he holds himself to. His work and dedication has earned him a three-time spot in the Macy's Great American Marching Band at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade."

Congratulations Lailagh Merrill, this week's Senior Spotlight!

"Lailagh is a pre-professional ballet dancer. She trains every summer with Ballet companies around the country. Ballet is a very demanding form of dance which requires hours of daily practice, dedication, and discipline. Even though Lailagh works so hard at her dance, she still holds academics as a priority and works hard to make sure that she is completing all of her assignments."

Stay tuned this week to celebrate Lailagh with us, and thank you to Reyna's Photography for the beautiful photo!
